film festival

So next week Wednesday the whole school is getting on a bus to go to silver park to watch our films that we have created on the big screen at the theater.  This is what we do every year because we are a manaiakalani school. We're not only going to watch our films but other manaiakalani schools. Then once we have finished watching the films we will be on our way back to school.

Tennis with Pete

Today was our first day of practice for tennis, so we went down to the courts to have practice with coach Pete. He teaches us how to play tennis, his first instruction was to practice some drills. Then we had to stand near a racket and practice hitting the ball towards our  opponent, then when he says switch! we change to give the other person turn. After all that practice we start playing a game of tennis. It was coming towards the end of our session so once we finished we said good bye to coach Pet, and looking forward to seeing him next Tuesday.

Skip Off

On Monday 24 September all of Ruapotaka school had gone down to the courts to watch each class perform their skipping  display that they've been practicing for weeks. When we arrived there I saw a of couple parents sitting down to support and watch their their child perform.

When it was our turn we had to hurry because it was going to rain. Luckily we had enough time to do our display before it rained but the sad part is when we didn't have enough time for the skip off.

It was a fantastic day, I was happy that Pupuke represented our class in the finals and how he came second place.

Duffy Awards

On Monday we had two special Duffy role models. They came to talk to us about reading books. Once they introduced themselves they started talking about how they were interested in reading. One of the role models said his teacher told him that he should read books about sports because he loved playing it.   That's how he got involved in big events. Then at the end specific people were called up to receive their Duffy books from the two Duffy role models. After that we sang the Duffy song.

The last day of Volley ball

Last day of volley ball.
This Tuesday was the last day of our volley ball lesson. We had a lot of fun.

Since it was the last day, Renee gave us a choice. We could either do girls vs boys, elimination or tournament so we selected all  of them.

First we started with elimination. It was fun until I got eliminated. Then we played tournament and then, girls vs boys. My favourite part about girls vs boys is when we won but, when it came to the end we had to say our goodbyes to coach Renee.

Skipping

When we are skipping we have to start off with a warm up. Once we've finished that, we get into our
skipping groups. When we practice our first display we practice it three times to get it right. After we have finished deciding what the next display is going to be we add all the items together to make a skipping display. Once we have learnt the routine we are ready for the finals.

When we've practice all the skipping moves we show our demonstration to the other groups, but when it's the finals the whole school will be watching, including the parents.

Volley Ball

Every Tuesday we have volley ball practice. A lady named Renee started teaching us the easy and simple moves. First we had to find a partner to practice with.

When we finished practicing we headed over to the net and started using the techniques we've learnt. After a few games we sadly had to say goodbye to coach Renne. Luckily enough we will see her next Tuesday.

Kahurangi

On Wednesday we had a few special visitors. Once the whole school was in the  multipurpose room, we called out the visitors. When they came out they were dressed in Maori costumes and started dancing. After they stopped they had said they were here to tell us a story about Maori myths and legends.

While they're telling the story they were also acting. My favorite part that I liked, is when they called up two students and one teacher to show us how to use a Taiaha, but first a man called Lucky had to demonstrate. It was really funny because they didn't know the moves.

Sadly the performance was coming to the end. They closed off with us asking questions, then we said our goodbyes.

Basket Weaving

Every Friday, we work on our basket weaving.

First, we had to watch a video that shows us how to make it. Then, once we've finished watching it, we begin. You need a lot of resources such, as a ruler, paper, glue and scissors. When we've finished we hand it in. After that we move on to our next activity. The next activity is easier, we have to make a paper heart and design a beautiful weaved pattern on to it just like the first one.

My Duffy Award

On Monday we had Syndicate Assembly. When Mrs Vickers finished speaking she called out the teachers for the names of people who had been caught being good. Once the people had
stood up in front of the whole school each person had received a book from Mrs Vickers. I chose a book called Alife Bloom. I've been chosen for moving up a Reading level when I had my reading test. I haven't read it yet but it looks very Interesting to me.

Hip Hop Off

Today was the day we showcased our dance moves. Each group from different classes have been selected to show off their own dances or the dances that they have been taught from our instructor, Jess. The people who were chosen to dance had to practice hard to be better than before.

This afternoon in the multipurpose room the whole school watched all the dances. The best dance group I liked was Room Twelve because the dancers added different unique  moves to the dance which they put together themselves. They looked amazing.

But the funniest one I liked was Room Six because they just made me laugh.

Hip Hop With Jess

Every Tuesday and Friday we go to the Multipurpose Room to learn hip hop with Jess. Jess is our instructor, who teaches us how to dance. She is very skilled and talented. She teaches us very unique dance moves.

When we do hip hop we normally start off with a quick warm up, afterwards we would play a game called musical statues. Once we have finished playing the game we would get into our groups that were organised by the students, not the teachers this time.

When we get together we start off by practicing our dance moves that we put together on Tuesday. Jess lets us practice our moves for ten minutes.

Every group had a turn showing us if they were confident or not. Jess calls this choreo. When all of the groups had shown their dance Jess congratulated us as we massively thanked her. Next week she will have something new planned for us to perform.

Making A Burger

Today is the last day for cooking. We made an egg burger,we first had to gather the ingredients in order to make the burger.

Then we heated the four buns to a 180 degrees. Once that was in the oven we had to fry the eggs when the eggs were done. We put them aside and grab the ingredients to put in the burger like lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cheese, mayo then once all of them has been combined we take a photo of it then it's done. Mrs Tuipulotu said it is a simple recipe that you could try to make a home.

Assembly

On Monday we had Assembly, it was Room 10's turn to host.

We started by singing a song. After that volunteers had chosen to play a game. They had to get up and follow the instructions that they were given. The game they played was called heads up, it's kind of like charades but in a different way. It was really fun playing against the teachers. When the game was finished it was time for another game called hip hop but everybody won. After those two games it was time to sing another song. Shortly after the teacher's had to hand out the certificates'. When the teachers had handed out the certificates to the students it was time for the special clap. Once the assembly was over we had to head back to class.

Daily Fitness

For daily fitness we had to jog around the senior block for ten to fifteen minute.s we had to do this process till the end of the week. While we are jogging and running we had ton run up a hill then go around the basketball court, round the the toilets then back up the hill again.  If you were a slow runner
you had to move to the left and let the fast runner pass .

We dont run every week  I think it changes. When we don't do running we do circuits. Circuits is different fitness as you go around each cone. One whistle is blown to move on to the next exercise. There are eight different exercises to do .When we've done all of them the person who has the whistle will blow the whistle two times to finish.

Making Bolognese

Today at Tech we made Bolognese!

We always have to follow the recipe that our teacher gives us or else we aren't allowed to make any dishes. The ingredients we used were very basic. We used pre-made pasta, onions, garlic, sauce, meat balls and a little bit of cheese.

Once the pasta was cooked, I started cooking the meat balls. When the meat was cooked, I added the sauce.

Now that everything was cooked I was able to combine the pasta and meat. I then transferred some of the Bolognese to a plate. When the Bolognese was ready on the plate I sprinkled cheese over it.

I thought it tasted like spaghetti and sausage.

Ham and cheese toast

Today at Tech we made ham and cheese toast.

We had to get six pieces of bread and cut the crust and dip all of the bread in eggs, ham and cheese. Then we put them into the pan with melted butter then waited for the bread to turn into a golden brown colour.

When the bread was done we put them on the plate and took a photo.

In the holidays I slept in and didn't do anything productive. Eventually I got bored so, I decided to watch a few movies and eat snacks. I then got invited to my little cousin's birthday party. She was turning one years old. The party was unicorn themed. It was really fun but, I thought it was going to be boring. There was a bouncy castle, Piñata and a big feed. After when the party was finished we went home

It was a very busy week for us planing a lot of birthdays. My sisters birthday was right around the block. The next few days it was my second oldest sister birthday who just turned 18 we just stayed home and celebrated it.

On Wednesday we went to tech and made chocolate muffins. We all had to follow our daily routine. Then after the basics were done, we had to get all of our equipment out to make the chocolate muffins. Once we had made the mixture for the muffins we put little muffin cups in the muffin tray. Then we put the mixture into the tray, next we put the tray into the oven.

Then we had to set the timer for about 5-6 minutes. When the muffins were ready we took a photo of the muffins. I was told to blog about it. Once that was done we could eat them or take them  home.

making vanilla muffins

On Wednesday we made vanilla muffins with Mrs Tuipulotu. We took all the equipment out to make the muffins. Once we made the mixture  we had to put it into the tray, then turn on the oven to 180 degrees. We had to put the muffins in and wait for it to rise.
After the muffins were ready, we had to poke a hole in them to see if they were ready. When they were done we took them out and waited for them to cool down. When the muffins were done we could either take them home or eat them over there.

Making Nachos

On Wednesday we made Nachos with our buddies. We had to follow Mrs Tuipulotu's instructions on the board that she had set for us. First, we had to get all the ingredients that we were going to use to make the dish. When the sauce was ready for the chips we had to put them beside the sauce. Then it was ready to eat

Back to school for 2018 🤓 🤓

I'm ready to learn and come back to school for 2018. I'm looking forward to coming back to school mostly every day. I enjoy seeing new people coming to our school it's been fun so for me this year. I'm getting use to being a year 8 student in Room 12 with the other year 8's. It was also great seeing the people that was here last year and sad seeing those that left to college.
