Broad beans and cress

We were learning about how plants grow and seeds sprout.  We grew cress and sprouted broad beans in class. We watched how water moves through plants by putting celery in coloured water.

This is how my cress and broad bean changed over time.

Our movie Kotahitanga

My part of making our movie was making a letter A out of newspaper for the word Ruapotaka. My buddies to do this were Mary and Henry. We read the newspaper in the library and then we carried the letter A out onto the field. We played the Stan Walker song while we were making our movie. We sang the National Anthem part in class. I really enjoyed making Room 10's movie for the film festival. It was cool seeing it on the big screen but I wish there was popcorn and drinks. I also think the best movie I saw was Kotahitanga!

Taking care of my chromebook

In Term 2 Mrs Grant taught us about Kawa of Care.  This means that it is my job to look after my Chromebook carefully when I am working and when I carry it around the classroom.

How Many Pieces Do I Have?

We are learning about fractions this term.  To remember and think about what we already know, we made sausage roll and pizza with clay. We divided our shapes into fractions.  Each piece was the same size. Then, we made some pizza toppings for a whole pizza.  We shared them out on our pizza.  Each quarter of my pizza had the same number of toppings.

I'd like to travel here.

This is one of the first Digital Learning Objects that we created and it was quite tricky.  I chose somewhere in the world I would like to visit one day.  Then I found an image of it on Google images.  Next, I cut around a photograph of my head using Pixlr so I could put  myself in that place.  Maybe I will travel there in the future in real life.

Make a strong and unique password

 We are learning to create strong, unique passwords and make sure our Google account is secure .

My top tip

I like ctrl z because it undoes something if I have just deleted it by mistake.

My name is Alexandra and I am a Year 5 student at Ruapotaka School.  My teacher is Mrs Buchanan.  She is tall. My other teacher is Mrs Grant.

I like coming to school to learn. My favourite subjects are reading, writing and maths. I also like playing sport.

My pets’ names are Alvin and Simon.  Alvin is a dog and Simon is a cat.  My favourite movie is Barbie and the Three Musketeers. My favourite book is The Twits by Roald Dahl. It is very funny.
